Book Week 2012, One World- Many Stories

Wednesday, 12 September 2012 18:55

ACG Book Week

Primary School students celebrated Book Week with a range of fun and educational activities to promote ‘a love of books’. The theme, One World-Many Stories, promotes stories from around the world and aims to deepen our intercultural understanding. Classroom doors were decorated with books from a particular country and throughout the week, teachers shared books from that country. Students across the Primary School also designed their favourite book cover. Prizes were given to 6 students from each year group, with design covers including well known books such as: “Polar Bear Polar Bear, What do you hear?” and “Matilda”. Students also enjoyed listening to stories being read by teachers during break times. Years 1 to 6 took part in a Read-a-thon to help raise money for charity by reading as many books as they can.

Book Week, One World- Many Stories, came to a close on Friday 7th September with a splash of colours at a special assembly, in which students and their teachers paraded in beautiful costumes of their favourite book characters. From Robin Hood, Alice in Wonderland, Sherlock Holmes to Mr Bean, the Auditorium brought our favourite books alive.

The School would like to take this opportunity to thank the Book Week / Literacy Week Committee, all the teachers, staff and students who made this a fun-filled week and reminded us all about the importance of books.

ACG Book Week

Primary School students will celebrate Book Week on Tuesday 4th to Friday 7th September. A range of fun and educational activities are being arranged at the School throughout the week to promote and encourage reading and ‘a love of books’.

Each year, ACG International School Vietnam spends a week celebrating books, authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers and co-teachers develop activities, offer competitions and tell stories to highlight the importance of reading.

The theme in 2012 is One World – Many Stories.

On Friday 7th September, all Kindergarten and Primary will come to School dressed as their favourite characters from books. A small assembly and parade will be held in the morning to mark the end of this special event.

As part of this celebration, Fahasa Books will hold at Book Fair in the School Reception Foyer from Wednesday 5th September to Friday 7th September with many English reading titles on sale to students and parents.

Congratulations to our Year 6 students and teachers for presenting an enriching and inspirational two-day Exhibition on 4th and 5th June 2012. The 'How We Express Ourselves' PYP Exhibition was a multi-sensory display of the students' learning journey throughout the past 6 weeks- rich in colour, music, dance, information and ideas. It left visitors of the Exhibition stimulated and truly inspired.

Ten topics were thoroughly researched and displayed, covering issues such as: Heartbeat Vietnam; Whaling; AIDS; Differently Able; Shark finning; ARC Pet Rescue; Wild life Rescue; Water Pollution; Habitat for humanity; Poaching from National Parks. Students presented each topic with great enthusiasm and depth of knowledge, taking the audience with them on a journey of discovery. Students communicated their ideas and topics in a compelling manner; they demonstrated a caring attitude towards the topic they researched and they were open-minded in their quest for information.

It was clear that knowledge and information were not the only thing students learnt in putting together the Exhibition. Important skills such as critical thinking, self-management, communication, social and research methods, and an altruistic attitude have prominently emerged in our IBPYP students.

Interspersed between the topic presentations were music and dances by the students that kept the audience entertained . From the innovative use of recyclable materials as musical instruments on stage to a moving rendition of 'The Show' by four Year 6 students, it was an unforgettable first PYP Exhibition at ACG International School Vietnam.

How we express ourselves - Year 6 IB PYP Exhibition

ACG International School Vietnam will host a Year 6 IB/PYP Exhibition on 4th and 5th June 2012 with the theme of ‘How We Express Ourselves’. This involves an inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values, the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity.

The Exhibition is an important event for an IB World School because, through it, students get to demonstrate their understanding and learning that has taken place throughout their primary years. The Exhibition promotes independence and responsibility and is an authentic process where students participate in active learning and can take ‘action’. The Exhibition involves and unites the whole school community, students, teachers, parents, local community and a real learning ‘buzz’ is felt around the School as it transcends all year levels and disciplines.

Parents and the wider community are invited to attend this exciting 2 day exhibition at ACG International School to see how real-life issues and problems are explored and investigated, by IB students.

For more information about this exhibition, please contact us at acgvn@acgedu.com .
