Cambridge 236At the awards ceremony for the Cambridge International Exams in Auckland, it was very clear which schools creative students should attend if they want to do well. Out of 15 Art and Design awards, 11 went to students from ACG schools.

The ceremony was held at Auckland Grammar School with 92 students receiving awards. It was an entertaining night with performances from students Benjamin Kubiak on the piano and Jessie Li on the violin. Speeches were given by Simon Peek (Senior Schools Development Manager for New Zealand, Australia and Pacific Islands), John Morris (Senior Education Advisor, Cambridge International Examinations) and student Howell Fu, who has just been accepted into Oxford University in the UK to study medicine.

STM Star High School Award

Winner: ACG Schools, New Zealand

stm star high school award

On Saturday 1st September, ACG was for the second year in a row awarded the STM Star High School Award at the international education industry's most prestigious event at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

Ian King, Executive Chairman, and Kim Harase, Director of Marketing, accepted the award on behalf of ACG at the Study Travel Magazine (STM) Star Awards' gala dinner attended by 680 education providers and partners from all over the world.

Ian King says: "The winners of this event are chosen from thousands of votes cast by educational agencies in the industry, so winning this award is a great honour as it places ACG at the top in terms of recognition by our valued partners. ACG was the only NZ nominee and award winner amongst education providers from the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Ireland and South Africa".

"Winning the award confirms that ACG is meeting the service delivery expectations of its partners and their students. This is important as the majority of ACG's international students in NZ are recruited by our education partners. It is also important that we listen carefully to our students, their families and our partners to continue to provide them with the best educational services".

Metro Best Schools in Auckland

Metro - Best Schools In Auckland And The Worst July-Aug 2012Each year, Metro magazine analyses the academic achievements of all Auckland schools.

The article has just been released and the most relevant ranking is University Entrance Pass Rates, according to the magazine:

"It's a standard set by the Ministry of Education and recognised by all universities, and it's gauged through the work students do in whatever assessment system they are enrolled in. All schools – whether they offer NCEA, Cambridge or IB – record UE results for every student.

This makes University Entrance (UE) the only universal measure of achievement for high schools in this country. It's the basic requirement for tertiary study, and it's the best comparative measure we have for all schools."

According to metro, The top Auckland Schools with the biggest proportion of school leavers in 2009 and 2010 who had UE were:

Another Great Year for ACG

Many Indian parents choose ACG schools for their children as they enjoy the high level of teaching expertise coupled with the one-on-one individual student care. Those parents will be glad of their choice this year after the Cambridge International Examination rankings came out last week.

Only eight students in the whole of New Zealand received 100% in a subject and four of those came from ACG schools - an amazing effort.

The group received a total of 28 awards, nine of them being for students who were placed Top in the World and the overall pass rate was 90% across the four schools - ACG Strathallan, ACG Sunderland, ACG Parnell and ACG Senior College.

There have also been some students who have achieved amazingly for their young years.

Shorya Raj, formerly of ACG Sunderland and currently attending ACG Senior College, sat his IGCSE exams at age 13 (most would sit these at 15) and got four A*, one A and one B with most of his grades above 90%.

Frano Stanisic (14) of ACG Sunderland scored As in Business Studies, Chemistry, English Literature and Mathematics in his CIE exams. Exams which students don't usually take until they are 17. He will apply to study engineering at Auckland University in 2013 at age 15 and will have to ask for special permission to enrol because of his young age.

Clarence Van der Wel, Deputy Chief Executive of ACG, is extremely pleased with the efforts of the students and teachers in the four ACG schools from West Auckland to South Auckland. "ACG Schools have produced a great set of results. The overall pass rate of 90% is quite outstanding especially since CIE is the only qualification on offer at ACG and these results are a direct result of the skill, commitment and determination to succeed shown by both the students and teachers " he says.

Xinchi Qiu is another exceptional student who completed Year 13 in 2010. As a member of the Senior Scholars group last year, Xinchi continued to gain superb results. Having completed A Level Mathematics in Year 12, she entered the University of Auckland Maxx programme where she gained first place in the final examinations.

With a provisional offer to Oxford University, Xinchi only had to receive A grades for her A Levels to ensure her entry and, in true form, she did just that. It would seem that all the good news was hers and then she received notification that she had won a further prize and come top in the NCEA Scholarship examinations in Mathematics with Statistics. It would appear that her future will be nothing but bright. Xinchi is the fourth student from ACG Senior College to study at Oxford University.
