Swimming at ACG International School

Every one knows that today’s curriculum does not just encompass Language and Maths. ACG International School practices this ideology with an international curriculum that draws upon the best aspects of selected global curricula. At ACG International School, all eight learning areas have equal weight and importance. This allows children to explore their talents using various methods.

With many families in Jakarta living in residences that have swimming pools, ACG realizes the importance of children not just developing stroke techniques, but also their ability to save themselves should an emergency situation arise.

Therefore, as part of the ACG International School’s Physical Education programme, swimming has a year round focus for all children. Classes are provided for the non-confident child who has never been in an aquatic environment to the competitive swimmer. All lessons are presented in a fun and positive manner with experienced
teachers.

However, the ACG programme does not stop at swimming. The curriculum outcomes also encompass water safety skills, with resuscitation and rescue techniques being taught. The game of water polo allows children to develop essential team strategy and co-operation skills, whilst water aerobics develops coordination and fitness.

The students at ACG International School and the public have the opportunity to extend their developing swimming and water safety skills outside of school hours. A comprehensive programme is offered that involves toddlers, children, teenagers and adults.

For further details on the ACG International School swimming program please contact the Swimming Coordinator Miss Rebecca Hamer via the ACG administration office.

Daily Fitness at ACG International School

With our world developing many “technical gadgets” for children to occupy their time, the medical profession is becoming increasingly concerned with the growing rate of childhood obesity and the various complications that are associated with it.

Everyone knows that as babies we all learn to walk, talk and eat. The same concept is also relevant to children developing basic fundamental movement skills including: catching, throwing, balancing, hopping, jumping and skipping. These skills must be taught to children in order for them to develop the skills correctly.

As part of the ACG International School Physical Education Programme, all students participate in thirty minutes of “Daily Fitness” every morning. The sessions encompass the fun methods of dance, yoga and the Perceptual Motor Programme. Whist students are learning essential fundamental movement skills, they are also developing coordination, fitness, co-operation and weight control skills. These are relevant skills that will allow students to become successful adults later on in life.

As the saying goes: “ You can’t be successful in life unless you have your health!”
