Auckland Zoo Trip

April 17, 2012 was the perfect day for a trip to the Auckland Zoo for students from ACG City Campus. The Zoo is situated in West Auckland close to Western Springs and is home to 138 different species and 860 animals. The animals looked as though they were enjoying the day just as much as the students who learned about new developments at the zoo, including the conservation work and enclosure upgrades. Students were privileged to watch the veterinary surgeon and her team operating on a tuatara. "It was truly remarkable how the zoo staff invest so much care, effort and time into caring for New Zealand native and endemic species such as the tuatara and kiwi. I watched in amazement how they checked the vital signs of the lizard, extracted blood from its tail and injected saline and antibiotics under its skin."

By noon, after all the hard work, students proceeded to Darwin's café for refreshments, which they consumed while completing their observation sheets. To round off the day, Mrs Simento and Mr Meur planned team- building games for the students. "The first activity involved making a giant human knot which took us some time to unravel. This was followed by a game of Truth or Dare where we discovered interesting things about each other. Finally, we played a game called Dumb Charades which confused some but made us all laugh. By 4pm we decided to head home as we were exhausted."

"It was an enjoyable day. I will never forget the time we spent on our trip and all of the great memories we formed."
