Fish, fun, hooks and lines!

In November, Mr Hodges and nine students went fishing. Most were novices but they learned how to cast the line, detect a bite and strike!

Social Soccer

Thursday, 14 February 2013 09:13

ActionACG City Campus social soccer has been running during Term 1 at Victoria Park fields. It happens on a Thursday between 5.30 and 6.45 p.m. Soccer is open to all ACG students and all levels of expertise. For the past few weeks two games have operated, with the girls choosing to have their own game.

It has afforded a good opportunity to use the light evenings to get some exercise and meet students from other ACG courses. Games are competitive but inclusive and students who think they would like to have a go are encouraged to come along.

Soccer_Scouse_PowerOn Wednesday 4 April at 5pm the ACG City Campus inaugural Scouse Power versus Continental Fair-Weather Supporters Union soccer tournament kicked off at the YMCA Gym in uptown Auckland. Wow! What a game. Nail-biting, cheering spectators crowded the side-line as the players kicked, hoodwinked and dribbled their way to the final whistle. Four teams played and the overall winner was the Al Itthad Team (a combination of Arab students from the English School and Norton College) – they won all three of their matches.

The curtain-raiser and opening challenge match was won 2-1 by the staff team, Scouse Power. They beat the Continental Fair-Weather Supporters Union fair and square!

Basketball Tournament – Saturday 3 September 2011 at Parnell College

This is the third tournament to be held at Parnell College and the number of students attending is growing. Students from April Fast Track, July Foundation, Post Foundation, February Foundation and the English School participated in this tournament. It was also great for many other students, who were not participating in the tournament, to come along to support their friends.

Mr Nathu was at the door to welcome students arriving at 8.30 am with Mr Meur on hand to help at the end of the day. Many thanks also to Mrs Verry and her husband who both played in the staff team and helped with refereeing the games. Quite a few students displayed their basketball talents with their speed in fast breaks and shooting skills in sinking their 3 pointers. Luckily, there were no injuries on the day and all students who participated had a lot of fun.

Just a quick update on the Basketball Tournament held on the Saturday just gone at ACG Parnell College.  This is the third tournament to be held and the numbers attending are growing larger in number.  Students from April Fast Track, July Foundation, Post Foundation, February Foundation and ACG English School participated in this tournament.  It was also great to have many other students who were not participating in the tournament, come along to support their friends.

Nandy Nathu was at the door to welcome students arriving at 8.30 am with Dave on hand to help at the end of the day.  Many thanks also to Loretta and her husband David who both played in the staff team and helped with refereeing the games.  Quite a few students displayed their basketball talents with their speed in fast breaks and shooting skills in sinking their 3 pointers.  Luckily, there were no injuries on the day and both students and staff who participated had a lot of fun.

The final was played between two teams with players from February Foundation and ACG English School. The teams were Seven Head – captained by Eric Lam and Big Truck – captained by Torres Chan.  The final score was a draw at 10 all; therefore 5 minutes was added to the clock.  Again, another draw therefore a shoot-out was needed to determine the winner.  Finally on the final shot (in the second round of the shoot-out) – Big Truck won.

The following students from this campus were in the winning team:

Piyavat Kitthitisate

Supree Portrakoon

Guangyu (Yu) Ma

Sporting activities at ACG

Friday, 18 March 2011 10:21

Basketball and soccer games were held for ACG International students at Parnell College on Saturday 26th February 2011. Approximately 100 students were involved in the sports day with many more students coming along to support their fellow friends and classmates.

The students came from NZIC Queen Street Campus, NZIC Parnell Campus, Norton College and ACG English School. There were 16 teams entered in total which started with basketball at 9 am then Soccer at 2 pm. The event finished at 6 pm that evening.

Many students displayed strong skills in their chosen sport and a few even played in both events. There was chanting and cheering from spectators on the sideline and it was great to see the positive morale and support of other teams when they were not playing.

Basketball

The finals were between the ACG staff (and friends) team and BK.  BK consisted of a team of students from NZIC Parnell Campus and was captained by Taylor Yuan. A lot of fun and laughs were had by both teams, with many three pointers shot (and sunk), spectacular fast game play and a few fancy lay-ups. At the end of the game, the staff team presented BK with a basketball from the New Zealand Breakers team with all their signatures on it.

Soccer
A furious hard hitting final game was held between Phalastine and The Blue Devils. Phalastine was captained by NZIC Queen Street student Saeed Alhammadi and The Blue Devils was captained by NZIC Parnell Campus student Matrank Ali. With a minute to go, the score was 1-1. However, The Blue Devils scored the winning goal.

Congratulations to all teams involved and for making this event one to remember and we hope to see all students back in the next tournament.

Many thanks to Mr Hodges, Mrs Hodges, Ms Chou-Lee and Mr Meur for their work in organising this event.
