Tiritiri Matangi Island TripOn Saturday 30 March eleven students from ACG City Campus went to visit the open sanctuary on Tiritiri Matangi Island with Mr Hodges. After several last minute lunch purchases from Subway and a relatively calm one hour ferry ride from Auckland, they arrived on the Island and headed north for a guided tour. Scenery was spectacular but the birds seem to be keeping the same morning hours as most of our students and sightings were sparse until near the northern end of the main track they encountered a family of Takahe at close quarters (7th most endangered bird in the world).

Tutor Group 2The ACG Tutor Community Programme got off to a good start on Monday 11 February. “At first I didn’t want to go to Tutor Community meeting,” said Kim Khanghyun, “but I’m glad I went. Reflecting on how I learn will help me improve the way I study and, I hope, my grades”. Each Tutor Community has a tutor who guides the students through a study skills programme designed to train them in essential academic study skills within the context of their course of study. Attendance and punctuality are also monitored by the tutors, and student welfare needs supported.

Graduation-Aug-2012-Principal-and-graduandOn Wednesday 22 August 39 students graduated from the AUT International Foundation Certificate. One of the highlights of the ceremony was the Principal's inspiring words. Mr Haines took us on a metaphoric journey of selfdiscovery and learning, 'paddling our kayaks' up the mighty Waikato River, meeting the 'rapids' and 'whirlpools' head on, with courage, initiative and creativity.

Another very good set of results in the AUT International Foundation Certificate examinations has seen almost all students in the final trimester receive an offer of place to AUT. The top AUT Foundation Graduate Trimester 1 2012, was Kim Anh Phung from Vietnam.

In June, the University of Auckland Foundation students have their final examinations and expectations are for a good showing. EAP results are excellent. Holiday tutoring proved to be popular, with students making use of the tutorials during the April break. A big thank you to the tutors.

The recent arrival of our biggest intake of students into the April Fast Track Programme in the University of Auckland Certificate in Foundation Studies is yet another indication of how popular and sought after this programme is.
