The Academic Colleges Group (ACG) began with the decision to found ACG Senior College and ACG New Zealand International College, which opened in January 1995. Co-founders, Dawn Jones OBE MA DipEd DipTchg and John Graham CBE MA DipTchg, are both well-known and highly respected educationalists.

Their vision was to create a unique place of learning; one that was fashioned on the very best of international models. It was to be a school that would provide individuals with the knowledge, skills and focus needed to prepare them for future success at tertiary levels. It was envisaged that a similar school for the younger age-group could follow ACG Senior College. ACG Junior College was founded in 1998, providing specialist education for students in Years 7 to 10.

There are many reasons why you should educate your child at ACG Parnell College. Unique features of the College include:

  • All students are challenged to set goals for themselves. These are recorded and teachers work with the student to achieve success. Each semester an Achievement Conference Day is held when students meet individually with their tutors to evaluate achievements and set new goals.
  • Extension activities are in place in each curriculum area to challenge able students. These include opportunities to sit IGCSE papers in Mathematics and Science at Year 10.
  • Quality, specialist teachers are selected to provide the best tuition in each subject field
  • Classes run for an average of 70 minutes, allowing more sustained learning in each subject
  • 'Thinking Skills' are taught as part of the curriculum to create ordered minds and deeper understanding
  • Artistic and musical talents are acknowledged and nurtured. Special interest groups include art workshops, dance, drama, bands, and an annual musical production.
  • Sports and health programmes aim to broaden students' experiences and enable lifelong participation in a variety of activities
  • A 'Behaviour Code' is followed to ensure the maxim: "All students have the right to feel happy at ACG Parnell College".

There are two Achievement Conference Days throughout the year; one at the start of each semester. These enable students to set goals with their tutor teachers, who then work with the students in order to help them achieve these goals.

Note: Achievement Conference Days are NOT ordinary teaching days. Students are required to be at school ONLY for their 15 minute appointment.
