AFS Chile

Friday, 28 September 2012 09:09

Sam Tommas is on an exchange to Chile this year and he returns to Year 13 in January. He sends this report of his experiences:
"I was embraced by Chilean culture with a warm welcome as soon as I stepped off the plane and got to know my new family for the year. I couldn't keep the feeling out of my head of how strange all of this was for me. I remember one of my first thoughts being how small everybody here was compared to New Zealand. These feelings of strangeness almost instantly vanished as my new family made me feel
right at home from the outset.

Motutapu Helpers

Monday, 27 August 2012 09:57

Alumni Oliver Brown, providing more opportunities of community service for his '12 Hours in 2012' participants, led a group to Motutapu Island recently. He reports:

"On 6th August a group of 29 ACG Parnell College students, parents and alumni when to Motutapu to participate in some tree planting! The group broke up into pairs with each planting 20 to 35 trees each. Following the tree planting, we walked through an area of Motutapu which had trees that had been planted 15 years ago - a walk which allowed us to understand what our trees would look like in just a few years' time."

Parnell's Top Film-Makers

Monday, 27 August 2012 09:46

Many congratulations to Georgina Niu (Year 10) and Nina Jeffs (Year 10) for their latest film, Pedi-Cure. Not only have they produced a first rate movie, but they also raised over $560 for charity through selling tickets to a screening in Newmarket. The theatre was packed with students, parents and staff.

Georgina was also been selected for a film workshop at Unitec recently. Topics covered in the workshop included pre-production techniques and aspects of sustainability, and how to apply them to film.

The message below is from Mr Belcher, the driver of the 7:00am OuterLink Bus in the Mt. Eden / Greenlane area. He writes:

"I would like to pass on the fact that you have some of the most courteous, cheerful and well-presented students I have ever had to carry. They are always so friendly with a 'good morning' and 'have a good day' to me."

Devonport Flagstaff Mar Issue Devonport local passionate about building strong communitiesFor Libby Jespersen, choosing a school outside the local area has had fewer hurdles than she thought. While she and her family love living in Devonport, it is also an excellent gateway to the city. Libby started at ACG Parnell in Year 7.

She walks from home to catch the 7:30am ferry into town, and then catches the awaiting bus and is at school by 8am. She does the same on the way home.

She says "Catching the ferry and bus works really well and I actually enjoy the trip. It's worth it because ACG Parnell College suits me so well as a student."
