ACG Senior College graduates head to world’s top universities

Angela Katherine Nina 3

Three friends heading off to two of the world’s top universities reunited at their school ACG Senior College recently.

Katherine Yang, who received Top in the World in Painting last year (Cambridge International Examinations), is taking up a place studying Engineering and Design at Stanford University in the United States from September. Katherine was offered places at nine top universities around the world. Ultimately, she chose Stanford for its world-renowned Design School, and proximity to Silicon Valley and the booming San Francisco area.

Nina Jeffs received a life-changing Girdlers’ Scholarship to The University of Cambridge, worth £32,000 per annum. Only one of the prestigious scholarships is awarded per year in New Zealand. Nina will major in Politics and International Relations starting in October.

Angela Chan gained straight A* and As for her six 2015 IGCSE and Advanced Level subjects. She’s going to study Law at The University of Cambridge.

All three students are graduates of ACG Senior College, a high-performing pre-university College in Lorne Street in the city. The young women said it was comforting to know they would be sharing the experience of studying abroad at top universities. “It’s really amazing that we’re all here together, because we studied together, worked hard and achieved what we really wanted to,” Angela explained. “I’m so happy to share that with them.”

Associate Principal Graham Gottard said ACG Senior College produced self-motivated students and attracted top-quality teachers: “If you’re in a class with small numbers, in a school day that’s significantly longer with structured free time, where you’re expected to liaise with your teacher or tutor, you will do well.”
