Focus 2012

In our preparations for the 2012 academic year, the College is focussed on engaging students in learning at school. Teachers play a vital role in this as they interact daily with students in a number of different ways. They are curriculum specialists and provide students with knowledge, skills and contexts for thinking and learning.

However, they also support students in other ways, especially in their role as Tutors. They support and advise students about their current studies and their possible futures. Tutors are there to encourage students, to help them set goals and to find other experts who may be able to help.

Our focus for 2012 is to explore and enhance the ways in which we engage students in learning. For students it is to understand what motivates them and how they can develop this into learning strategies.

In the Primary School our main area of focus will be to use SOLO Taxonomy  as the language that is used throughout the school to describe the level of response given by students orally and in writing. The aim is to lift the standard of written response to reduce the gap between the student’s reading ability and what they produce in their written work. In addition for students, the emphasis across the Primary School will be on a ‘yes’ attitude towards all that they do.
