Music and Drama at ACG Strathallan

A state-of-the-art Music and Drama facility opened 2011. This facility includes a large drama theatre, a function lounge and a suite of music rooms.

ACG Strathallan students have many opportunities to excel in the musical and dramatic fields. The annual College production allows students to showcase their talents as musicians, cast or crew. There is also a junior production staged at the end of the school year. ACG Strathallan also joins the other Auckland ACG schools to put on a concert each year – a musical and dance extravaganza.

The College offers tuition in a wide range of musical instruments and ACG Strathallan students are also encouraged to join one of the many musical groups, such as the singing group, symphonic band or jazz band.

ACG Strathallan students continue to enjoy success in their musical endeavours. For two years running, the ACG Strathallan Jazz band has been invited to play at the Bay of Islands Jazz Festival. In 2010, the band joined a small group of students from another Auckland school to travel to Australia to perform at the prestigious Brisbane Entrance Winter Jazz n Blues Festival.

Individual success for ACG Strathallan students includes:

2009 CIE Top in New Zealand for AS Music: Elliot Hurst

2010 Young Musician of the Year (Third place): Mitchell French

2011 NZ Secondary Schools Song Writer of the Year (Third Place): Mitchell French
