Thank you for choosing to have the ACG Strathallan College Hockey Camp at Maroochy Waterfront Camp & Conference Centre recently, it was a delight to host you all. We hope that the rest of your time in Australia went well and that you all enjoyed your time here.
Hugo, we must say that your group of boys were exceptionally polite and well mannered. They are truly a credit to your school and a fantastic reflection of the calibre of students you are obviously producing at ACG Strathallan College.
Once again thank you for choosing Maroochy Waterfront Camp & Conference Centre and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.
Kind regards and have a wonderful Monday,
Maroochy Waterfront Camp & Conference Centre
Hi, my name is Sudarat (Tammy) Lowsoponkul and I’m from Thailand. I’ve been studying in New Zealand for nearly two years.
I chose to come to New Zealand because of its good education system and friendly people. I wanted to go to a big school and ACG Strathallan seemed perfect. In the next two years my sister will come here, too. ACG Strathallan offers a great education and has supportive and professional teachers.
Studying in New Zealand is quite different from studying in Thailand. There are some subjects available to students here that we don’t really have in Thailand like photography and business studies. Also, when I first came here I couldn’t speak English at all and I did not understand anything. However it has gradually improved thanks to the school environment and support.
I also get to practise my English with my New Zealand friends and homestay family. My homestay is really nice and sometimes we do trips away with them to explore New Zealand. They also visited Thailand and my parents took care of them while they were there.
ACG Strathallan offers a variety of extracurricular activities. This year I’m taking part in the Belle of the Ball fashion show where I get to model outfits created by local designers. I am also passionate about photography and it’s currently one of my favourite subjects.
After I finish school I would like go to university in England to do business or computing.
I hope 2014 has started well for you.
We would proudly like to inform you that Samuel has been selected for a Dairy NZ Scholarship which is able to run parallel with the Lincoln University Future Leader Scholarship that he attained in December. We would like to convey our huge appreciation to you and your wonderful Strathallan team for supporting and nurturing him through his secondary school life.
Lucy, Sam and ourselves are extremely happy with the decision we made to invest in the wonderful education that Strathallan has provided.

We've had your School's girls' hockey team staying with us for the last week and just wanted to drop you an email to say how well and proper they behaved while staying here. They were a credit to the school and an absolute pleasure to have here. I would also like to mention about the teachers/parents who were with them. I've owned the hostel for many years and this was one of the most organised and controlled groups we have had stay with us and they would be welcome back anytime.

"My favourite subjects this year have been maths - mostly because of my very supportive maths teacher - the half semester subjects (ICT, art, design, drama) and social science. Although, there are no subjects I hate.
Exams have been challenging and the end-of-years, I believe, will be extremely challenging as I have not in previous years done exams and have not developed an exact method of studying, etc. Maths has also been challenging as, coming from a different school it seems as if my classmates were years ahead of me, but with hard work and a patient and supportive teacher, Mrs Hibberd, I have been able to work my way up to the top end of the class."

This is Jinwoo Lee and I graduated from ACG Strathallan College in 2012. When I first came to New Zealand in 2007 beginning of July; I could not speak any English. So I found it very difficult to talk to anyone at school. Also, my first homestay was in Drury, but all my friends lived in Papakura, so I had no opportunity to hang out with them often.
It was my first time to be separated from my parents which was at times stressful and difficult. Although my English was not fluent, I tried my best to learn it so I could speak at least one kiwi friend. Also, at Strathallan College, there are diverse cultures. There are Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Indonesian, Thai and Russian. So they can learn not only English in New Zealand but also other languages as well.
My English has improved over years and I am able to communicate with kiwis. Additionally, I can even help to translate for new Korean students and I try to help them in any ways since I understand how they might feel.
This year, I will get a graduation certificate to end my high school life. And I am going to apply Korea University next year.

Strathallan 1st XI Hockey Team
It is not my normal practice to write to Principals after having thier teams stay.
In fact in the 20 years I have been running my lodge and in the process accommodating many sports teams over the years this is, I believe, the first time.
As you know there is a wide range in ages in your Hockey team yet it has one of the best 'team cultures' I have witnessed.
I should qualify that by saying I have considerable youth coaching experience.
This is obviously a credit to the staff involved but mostly to the team itself. The way they conducted themselves was a credit to your school and an example to all.
I wish them all the best for the future and I am certain the results they are seeking will come.
It was a pleasure to have them staying here.
Dear Mr Kirkham,
My husband and I would like to give the greatest praise to a superb teacher at Strathallan - Mrs H. Not only has she done a wonderful job at encouraging our son in Maths - a subject that he has struggled with and disliked for years. But, she has also motivated him to try harder and changed his attitude towards the subject. In fact he has told us that for the first time ever he can understand and grasp mathematics because of the teaching strategies she uses.
Mrs H also willingly offered helpful advice, answering all my email queries and lists of questions during parents-teacher interviews, allowing us further time during the interview to answer our questions when she could have had a break.
We feel that with our child she has put in a lot of effort and we commend her for this. And as he keeps telling us she is one of his favourite teachers and this is saying something for a boy who used to hate maths.
Having completed my final year at Strathallan College, I would like to thank you and the other board trustee members for giving me the wonderful opportunity to attend your school with the help of the scholarship I was awarded.
I now have a solid academic foundation which will be an asset for my future university studies. I have also enjoyed representing Strathallan College in athletics and cross country over the years.
While I have not been competing at a high level in athletics for the last 12-18 months, I am still training 5 days a week, and will return to compete at some stage in the future.
This year I have been accepted to study conjoint degree in Sport and recreation and Business at AUT. The education I have received from Strathallan College has made me want to learn more and keep learning throughout my life. The teachers helped me guide me in the path I am heading now.
Without the scholarship support, these opportunities would not be in front of me now.
We have just arrived back from looking after our 4 grandchildren in Wellington. I was really sorry to have missed the Pantomime last Wednesday – I have received glowing reports from all who attended from Acacia Cove saying they really enjoyed the occasion – and a cup of tea as well!
They commented also on the graciousness and politeness of the children.
So thank you so much for inviting us – hopefully next year there may be another concert and I will be able to attend.

A letter from the parent of Philippa
Dear Mr Kirkham,
I have emailed both Robyn Drummond and Matt Humber, but just wanted to also thank you and let you know what an absolutely amazing trip that our daughter Philippa was lucky enough to be part of! What an experience of a lifetime! We know without a doubt that we as a family would have been unable to provide as many highlights and experiences as the group had. Robyn and Matt were fantastic leaders and we appreciate the time and planning that would have gone into organising such an adventure together with the responsibility that they carried.
So a big thank you for allowing this opportunity to materialise, and so enriching this lucky groups world, their enthusiasm of their experiences is very infectious and I know they will have lifetime memories!
Our thanks and regards,
Catherine and Craig
A letter from an open day visitor
Thank you so much for a wonderful day on Saturday my daughter and I enjoyed our time there with our tour guide. It was a great experience for my daughter. She enjoyed talking to the English teacher; they had quite an in-depth conversation. She thought the Maths teachers were nice to, she also really liked the Physics teacher and loved your Music Department as she plays the flute. In fact I think she loved everyone in every department. She told me her head was just swimming with all the information and excitement of hopefully attending your school.
All the way home in the car and at home all weekend, all I have heard from her was "I have to go to that school mum, I just have too!" (school visit has created a monster).
So you will be hearing form us shortly. Once again thanks to all the staff and pupils who gave up their time to give us such an awesome day.
A letter from the parent of Liam
I am writing to say thank you to Strathallan for you efforts in ensuring Liam did well in his exams. We are very pleased with his results from AS/A level examinations.
Although Liam was most of the equation in passing, with the guidance and structure from your school, I believe this was instrumental in him passing. Can you pass on my appreciation to Robin Kirkham and staff.
He now starts the next leg through Auckland Uni(Bsc).
A letter from the parents of Justin
We are thrilled to hear that Justin has achieved Top in the World award for IGCSE Mathematics and we are very pleased that he has made the school and teachers proud of his achievement. We wish to extend our thanks and appreciation to the school and the teachers who have taught Justin. Likewise, Justin is grateful for the guidance that the teachers have given him.
We would also like to thank both you and Clarence who have faith in Justin's capability, and have given him encouragement by providing a challenging environment (i.e. the subjects he is doing at a higher level than what a normal Year 10 would pursue). Please convey to Clarence that we value his advice and his wisdom in directing Justin's academic progress in the past years. He was the one who had encouraged Justin to vie for Top in the World or Top in New Zealand award. Justin has not disappoint him and he has promised to do his very best for his senior years.
On behalf of Esther, thank you also for the new common room for the Year 13 students. Evidently, all the Year 13 students are very pleased that the school has looked into their personal needs and training them to be more responsible.
Jimmy and Jenny Koh.
