Music and Drama at ACG Strathallan
A state-of-the-art Music and Drama facility opened 2011. This facility includes a large drama studio, a function lounge and a suite of music rooms.
ACG Strathallan students have many opportunities to excel in the musical and dramatic fields. The annual College production allows students to showcase their talents as musicians, cast or crew. There is also a junior production staged at the end of each school year. ACG Strathallan also joins the other Auckland ACG schools to put on a regular concert – a musical and dance extravaganza.
The College offers tuition in a wide range of musical instruments and ACG Strathallan students are also encouraged to join one of the many musical groups, such as the singing group, symphonic band, jazz band, rock band or a chamber music ensemble.
ACG Strathallan students continue to enjoy success in their musical endeavours. The ACG Strathallan Jazz band regularly performs at Jazz Festivals around the country and at local community events. In 2010, the band joined a small group of students from another Auckland school to travel to Australia to perform at the prestigious Brisbane Entrance Winter Jazz n Blues Festival.
The Stage Band and Jazz Combo have competed and performed at the Tauranga Secondary Schools Competitions 2015 as well as the Manawatu Jazz Festival and Competitions. The Jazz Band perform annually at the Bay of Islands Jazz n Blues Festival.
A number of our senior students have gone on to study music full time at Universities in New Zealand, Australia and USA.
