Social Science Programme

Social science is all about people. It examines people's values and beliefs, cultures, and the way people organise themselves in societies.

It is a subject that requires students to be able to research and analyse information, and to be able to work with graphs, charts and maps.

At Sunderland College, years 7, 8, 9, and 10 will be looking at a variety of learning units covering the contemporary and historic world, local and international issues. Topics include consumer rights and responsibilities, leadership, government, human rights, and key moments in New Zealand history.

Social Science leads directly to the senior secondary subjects of History, Geography, Economic Studies and Classical Studies. Skills learned in Social Science are also essential to Business Studies and Media Studies.
