Activities and events

We have a wide range of cultural and sporting events for our students.

Culture

We provide an outstanding performing arts curriculum, which brings out the best in students' musical and dramatic abilities and gives all students a chance to shine. Students experience regular specialist music, drama and visual art teaching as part of their academic programme.

We have a Junior and a Senior Primary Choir. We hold a biannual Primary School production and Arts Festival with opportunities for all students to be involved.

A full and vibrant schedule of itinerant music lessons is available. Speech and Drama exams through Trinity Guildhall are provided for students as well.

We have the Sunderland choirs, groups and solo artists performing regularly at the Primary School Assembly.

Sports

At Sunderland Primary School, we play regular inter-school fixtures with other schools from Aucklandand from around the North Island of New Zealand. Currently we play local West Auckland schools and are involved in the North/West cluster group of schools for sports tournaments.

We offer the following sports in the Primary School at Sunderland:

Winter: Soccer, Netball, Flippaball and Basketball.

Summer: Athletics, Cricket, Touch Rugby and Tennis.

Throughout the academic year Sunderland students participate in school wide sports events. These events include:

• Cross country day
• Athletics day
• A swimming carnival

Sunderland focuses on a limited number of sports aiming to achieve success at local and regional levels. There are opportunities for students to compete in other sports, with all communications directed to our sports and physical education staff.  Parent help is very welcome for transport, coaching or team management.
