Language
English is the language of instruction in all Year Levels, and the ability to successfully access the curriculum within a reasonable time and to thrive in our English-language learning environment are the guiding principles for enrolment to the school.
ACG teachers are trained to support language acquisition and learning by non-native English speakers and additional English Language Support is also available for students. We offer a challenging academic programme geared toward students who are planning to go on to university overseas. At this level, students should have a fairly high degree of competency in English.
Moreover, in order to obtain an international diploma, students should complete courses equivalent to four full years of secondary school (See International Diploma Requirements). All students applying to the Secondary School should provide school records for the prior three academic years and they will be asked to take an Academic Placement Test.
Other Eligibility Requirements:
Special Needs – The Secondary School does not have facilities and resources to support students with significant learning, physical or social/emotional disabilities. In particular, we are not able to accommodate students requiring sustained one-on-one learning or other individualized support. Applicants with mild social/emotional issues, learning difficulties or other special needs are referred to our learning support staff for evaluation. Enrolment decisions are made by the Head of Secondary based on the recommendation of the learning support staff. If we determine that we are unable to accommodate a candidate’s special needs, we will endeavour to direct parents to more suitable options. However, parents should be aware that there are unfortunately very little English language-based resources to support students with special needs in Ho Chi Minh City.
Please note that any special educational, social/emotional, physical or behavioural issues and needs should be described in detail in the application for enrolment. Reports of professional assessments, along with details of extra support the applicant is receiving, should also be provided at the time of application. Failure to fully disclose such information at this time may result in revocation of enrolment.
Should social/emotional issues or learning disabilities become apparent following enrolment in the school, we will consult with parents and strive to support the student within the extent of our learning support resources and capabilities. However, we reserve the right to review a student’s progress and determine the appropriateness of his/her continued enrolment in the school. If we determine that we are unable to accommodate a student’s special needs, we will endeavour to direct parents to more suitable options.
Academic Achievement – Although the Secondary School offers a stimulating and challenging educational programme, we accommodate students with a range of academic abilities, provided they are able to adequately access and benefit from our curriculum. We make this determination primarily by reviewing applicants’ school records and the results from the Academic Placement Test.
Residence – ACG is a day school and does not have boarding facilities. Students must therefore reside with their parent(s) or other legal guardian in a location within commuting distance to the school.
Parent Communication – English is the language of instruction at ACG. It is also the primary language for communicating with parents.
Balance – As a coeducational international school, we try to the extent practicable to maintain a balance of genders, abilities and nationalities in each of our Year Levels and classes.
