Homestays

Homestay accommodation means living in a private household with a New Zealand family. At ACG, we recommend that all students choose to live in a homestay for at least the first three months in New Zealand.

The benefits of a homestay

  • Safety – the student’s homestay family can help them get around and give advice on living in New Zealand
  • It’s the best way to practice English – talking to their homestay family enhances a student’s vocabulary and helps clarity of speech – an important part of living and studying in an English-speaking country
  • Routine – students will have regular meals and a daily routine – study requires energy and focus, so it’s important that they eat a regular and balanced diet of nutritious home-cooked food

High homestay standards

ACG has a team of accommodation officers and homestay assessors to make sure homestays are safe and suitable for students. Our friendly assessors inspect each home and interview families before students are placed, and visit students under the age of 18 at least three times a year to make sure their experience is positive.
