ACG Schools announces new principal for ACG Tauranga

ACG Schools are pleased to announce the appointment of Thea Kilian as Principal of ACG Tauranga from 1 August 2018.

Ms Kilian joins the school from her position as Deputy Principal of Long Bay College in Auckland, where her responsibilities include curriculum development and review, quality assurance, year level strategic leadership and development of student leadership.

She is also Learning Lead Principal of Oneroa Community of Learning, a position that sees her work with the principals of seven schools on Auckland’s North Shore to develop strategies to improve and accelerate student achievement.

Previous to this, Ms Kilian held a number of senior leadership positions at Western Springs College in Auckland.

Ms Kilian has two children, a son aged 13 and a daughter aged 11. She holds a BSc degree with a double major in Mathematics and Botany and a BSc Post Graduate Honours degree in Mathematics.

She says she is passionate about the importance of a holistic education, and believes that expert teachers are a school’s most valuable resource. Ms Kilian has herself been the recipient of a National Excellence in Teaching Award and a finalist in the ‘I am Auckland’ Awards, in the Youth Voice category.

Ms Kilian will start at ACG Tauranga on 1 August. Principal Shawn Hutchinson, who is leaving to take up the role of Principal at ACG School Jakarta, Indonesia, will finish on 29 June (end of Term Two). Mr Peter Stevens will be Acting Principal from 30 June to 31 July.

ACG Education CEO Schools & Early Learning, Clarence van der Wel said he was delighted with the appointment of such an experienced and academically focussed leader, and welcomed Ms Kilian to the ACG and Bay of Plenty communities.
