ACG Schools best in Auckland – Metro rankings

When it comes to Auckland secondary schools, ACG Schools are at the top of the leader board.


That’s according to Metro magazine’s just-published Best Schools list, which sees ACG Parnell College ranked 1st out of 96 schools in Auckland for University Entrance.

ACG Strathallan in Karaka and ACG Sunderland in Henderson were ranked the top English-speaking schools in South Auckland and West Auckland respectively.

All three ranked among the top seven private schools in the city and in the top 14% of all schools, with ACG Parnell College gaining an outstanding 97.58% University Entrance achievement rate, well above the private school average of 78.51%.

ACG Schools CEO Clarence van der Wel was delighted with the results, which continue to improve year on year as ACG strengthens its place as Auckland’s premier provider of secondary school education.

“The results are testimony to the dedication and application of both teachers and students, as together they strive for excellence. All students are capable of excellence and given the right educational environment and support they can achieve outstanding results,” he said.

All three ACG schools have risen up Metro’s rankings in the past year. ACG Parnell College placed second in last year’s Best Schools list, while ACG Strathallan has shot up to 8th with an 86.81% University Entrance achievement rate, and ACG Sunderland is 13th out of all 96 schools in Auckland, with a UE achievement rate of 82.61%.

While the Metro list reflects ACG’s exceptional academic results, Mr Van der Wel was quick to point out that ACG Schools deliver an outstanding holistic education that focuses not only on examination pass rates, but also on other key areas such as sports and performing arts.

“The key to academic success is to create a school environment where students enjoy school and are given opportunities to participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom. Active students who embrace school life develop a strong sense of balance which helps them succeed in the classroom.”
