New Zealand School of Tourism (NZST) hosted 38 Star/Gateway co-ordinators and careers advisors this week, at the brand new and very cool Auckland City campus. The goal of the day was to showcase the campus facilities, meet the recruiters from Walt Disney World Orlando, introduce the careers advisors to NZST Level 2 and 3 Secondary School Tourism resources, and also tour the new training facility in Auckland.
With a new state-of-the-art campus, designed by Ellery Muir each of the four floors has a different theme – stylish corporate, aviation, hotel and fabulous New York!
An added bonus for the careers advisors this year, were the Walt Disney World recruiters, who hold recruitment days at NZST campuses in Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland twice a year. The careers advisors met Jill and Jeff from Disney and gained more insight around the NZST/Disney partnership and the opportunities our students have available to work at Walt Disney World Orlando.
NZST staff highlighted the online shopping cart and online resource bank which is a one-stop-shop for all tourism trainer resources, assessments and marking guides for our Level 2 and 3 Secondary School Tourism Programmes.
NZST Auckland National Sales Executive, Aimee Moore, said, “It was a really successful day, lots of opportunities for careers/STAR/gateway to connect with each other, NZST and even Disney. It was great to see lots of faces light up when we spoke about our student success and to hear about all the amazing products we offer”.
Wendy Keir, Careers Counsellor, Lynfield College, said, “Congratulations NZST on your new campus. I recently attended an informative Careers Professional Development Day at 360 Queen Street. We observed the students engaging in their studies, and it certainly felt like a creative, inspiring, fun space for students to be studying towards their Tourism qualifications. At the same time, we connected with industry professionals, including two Disney Orlando recruiters, who spoke about International work Programmes”.
Sue Caigea (STAR/Gateway from Glendowie College) said, “It was a very informative day, and we now have some great stories and examples about Disney to share with our students”.
