Meet Xinpei Zhou from China

Xinpei Zhou (Harriet) came to New Zealand in 2007 at the age of 17. Now a successful marketing professional, she runs her own company specialising in helping NZ and Australian brands excel in China. In 2016 she was granted the Valuable Contribution award by the New Zealand Chinese Association for her work promoting Chinese culture in Nelson.

Why did you choose to study in NZ?

Firstly, NZ is a beautiful country – it’s safe and quiet, so a good environment for studying. Secondly, education here is very advanced. NZ has some of the world’s best universities.

What made you decide to do the University of Auckland Certificate in Foundation Studies?

It provided advanced English study together with subjects I had never learned at school in China, like Accounting and Economics. It made me better prepared for the University of Auckland where I did a Bachelor of Commerce with a double major in Marketing and International Business, and helped me adapt smoothly to my new environment.

What was the highlight of your ACG Pathways course?

The teachers were very friendly. My passion for business study was enlightened by one of the teachers. I got to meet a lot of students from other countries and really enjoyed the multicultural environment.

Why would you recommend the course to others?

Because it prepares you better for future studies. A lot of students may not be sure what major they want to pursue – the course gives them the opportunity to try different subjects. It’s also a good time to make friends and adapt to NZ culture.

Tell us a little more about you

My overseas experience has made me an open-minded and independent person. I like making acquaintances with people from different backgrounds and I enjoy travelling and learning about local cultures.
