One of New Zealand’s leading independent schools, ACG Parnell College, will undergo expansion to include a third campus in time for the 2019 school year. The new ACG Parnell College, Senior Campus will bring together two of New Zealand’s highest academically-performing schools, ACG Parnell College and ACG Senior College.
From January 2019, ACG Senior College students will move premises and integrate into ACG Parnell College and carry out their studies from the newly-renovated ACG Parnell College, Senior Campus, located in the former Maori TV building at 9 Davis Crescent in Newmarket. Most of ACG Parnell College’s year 12 and 13 classes will be taught at this campus from January 2019.
Growing demand for the personalised learning and academic excellence ACG Schools offers its students, and a lack of capacity to cater for this, was the catalyst for change according to CEO of Schools and Early Learning, Clarence van der Wel.
“ACG Schools has a history of strong success that is testament to our investment in providing a high-quality academic education experience,” van der Wel says.
“We are confident the two respected colleges will be stronger together, continuing their focus on academic excellence. Drawing on their historical strengths, they will offer a wider combined range of opportunities and extra-curricular activities to students and staff.”
The current ACG Senior College school curriculum will be integrated into ACG Parnell College, Senior Campus. This includes continuing to offer ACG Senior College’s dual international qualification pathways – International Baccalaureate (IB) and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
“This means, for the first time, ACG Parnell College students will also be offered the choice to undertake either the IB Diploma, or its existing Cambridge programme (AS and A Levels), ensuring they enrol in a qualification that is the right fit for them. No other school in the country has both qualification pathways on offer,” says van der Wel.
The former Maori TV studio at the Newmarket end of Carlton Gore Road is being renovated and converted into a theatre. This will provide ACG Parnell College, Senior Campus students with a bespoke facility dedicated to drama and theatrical arts, as well as music.
The integration will also bring together a large group of experienced and highly-skilled teachers across a wide range of academic disciplines, which will provide greater strength and depth to the ACG Parnell College faculty.
Over the course of the next nine months ACG Schools will be engaging with students, parents and staff to update them on the progress of the integration and the Davis Crescent renovation.
ACG Parnell College will continue to facilitate learning for all ACG Senior College students in years 11, 12 and 13 and will comprise of three campuses from January 2019:
