22 November 2018 – NZMA has announced the appointment of Dr Kathy Garden as Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies for New Zealand Management Academies (NZMA), New Zealand Institute of Sport (NZIS), New Zealand College of Massage (NZCM) and NSIA, The Professional Hospitality Academy. Kathy has been a member of NZMA’s Academic Advisory Board for a number of years, and now joins the Senior Leadership Team.

The new role of Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies is responsible for the leadership of NZMA’s research activity and programme development and delivery at levels 7 and above.

Kathy was previously Dean of the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies at AUT. She has also been Chief Policy Adviser for the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology, Sustainable Development Director at Fletcher Challenge Ltd, and Director of Strategic Development at Manukau City Council. Kathy holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Canterbury, and is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institution of Professional Engineers.

NZMA, NZIS, NZCM and NSIA Chief Executive Mark Worsop said, “We are thrilled that Kathy will complement our team with her expertise across the tertiary sector.

“As NZMA continues to extend learning pathways to level 7 and above, it is important we have the right leadership and support for research-active staff. NZMA is also developing its organisational research, building a strong evidence base for teaching practices and programmes that will ensure student success at NZMA and beyond.”
