NZIS and MIT partner to provide students with more pathways to a degree

4 February 2019 – New Zealand Institute of Sport (NZIS) has partnered with Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) to offer a pathway to a Bachelor of Applied Sport & Exercise Science.  This aims to give students greater educational options following the completion of their NZIS programmes into higher level study.

New Zealand Institute of Sport was established in 1996, providing students with a practical pathway to success. We have evolved alongside the rapidly expanding industry of sport, recreation, exercise, fitness and health to provide relevant courses from level 2 to 6.  Campuses are located in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch.

The aim of the partnership with MIT is to develop work-ready graduates with in-depth knowledge and skills needed to perform in future dynamic leadership roles within sport, recreation, health and exercise sectors.

Subject to NZQA approval, students who complete the new Level 5 and Level 6 Diplomas at the New Zealand Institute of Sport are now eligible to enrol for a Bachelor of Applied Sport and Exercise Science at Manukau Institute of Technology, completing a degree in just one year.

This means by combining two-years study with NZIS, it is then possible to achieve an internationally recognised Bachelor Degree with an additional year of study.

General Manager of NZIS, Suzanne O’Brien said, “This is a great development for our students. We are excited to be delivering a newly developed New Zealand Diploma in Sport, Recreation and Exercise – multi-sector (Level 5 and Level 6) with our first intakes in February 2019.

Suzanne added, “As New Zealand is known internationally for its success in sports, adventure tourism, and active lifestyles, it will be ideal to inspire our students domestically and internationally to seek out the best programmes for their career in exercise prescription or administration in related industries, which now offer pathways to a Bachelor degree.”

The programme will also be advantageous for international students in particular seeking to gain work experience and participate in New Zealand sports and lifestyle while in New Zealand.
